2023 Access to Justice Awards Celebration
Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project (GDVLP), and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) proudly hosted the annual Access to Justice Awards Celebration on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Sinclair Community College.
The Access to Justice Awards Celebration is an annual event led by the Dayton legal community with proceeds to support critical legal services in our region. Guests learned more about our 2023 Campaign for Equal Justice and discovered additional ways to support our legal services that benefit veterans, survivors of domestic violence, food and housing-insecure individuals, children with special needs, immigrants and agricultural workers, and more. Festivities included heavy hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, networking opportunities, and recognition of our worthy Access to Justice Awards Celebration recipients.
Ericka Curran received the 2023 Lloyd O’Hara Public Interest Law Award for her significant impact on Dayton’s vulnerable immigrant and refugee populations. Laura Bucio, an English as a Second Language Teacher and Program Coordinator at Tecumseh Local Schools, was this year’s recipient of the 2023 Patricia Rousseau Community Advocacy Award for her above-and-beyond efforts to help ESL students achieve greatness.
