Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) is a non-profit regional law firm that provide high quality legal assistance in civil matters to help eligible low-income individuals and groups in western Ohio achieve self reliance, and equal justice and economic opportunity.
Pay-to-Stay
There are funds available to help tenants pay any rent they owe to their landlords which will ensure their landlords are made whole. This idea of Pay-to-Stay is crucial in ensuring housing stability, limiting the spread of COVID for tenants that may struggle to find new available housing, and ensures landlords receive their owed rent. Toledo’s Pay-to-Stay bill passed in December 2020.
Toledo Advocates were successfully able to utilize the Pay to Stay ordinance to keep a tenant housed and the landlord received the full amount of rent owed – without counsel this tenant would likely not have been able to keep their housing. There is a strong need for tenants to have representation.
