Work Requirements for Medicaid
The federal government has granted permission for Ohio to create a work requirement for Medicaid. The food stamp program (SNAP) has a work requirement. However, Ohio has never had a work requirement for Medicaid. Ohio is in the process of creating rules that will require participants to work or volunteer for at least 20 hours a week to be eligible for benefits. The work requirement can be waived for the following individuals:
- Age 50 and older
- Taking care of a Parent
- Individuals with a chronic condition
- Individuals who qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Able-bodied Adults without Dependents (ABAWD) programs
